The Missionary Benedictine Sisters
of Tutzing

The Missionary Benedictine religious life is a particular way of living the Gospel and is rooted in the Rule of Benedict.

Fr. Andreas Amrhein, our founder, wanted to renew the idea of mission in the Benedictine tradition and to establish a community that would proclaim the kingdom of God among those people who have not yet heard the Gospel.

In 1885, he founded our congregation which came to be known as “The Missionary Benedictine Sisters of Tutzing”.

The fundamental characteristic of our way of life is seeking God in community, under a rule and a superior. Our common life finds expression in praying and working together, in sharing our goods, both material and spiritual, and in mutual service, support and encouragement.

We, sisters and superiors, together strive to discern the will of God ever anew in order to respond more fully to our vocation.

From the Constitutions of the Missionary Benedictine Sisters of Tutzing, Ch. I, pp. 1-2.

Association of Benedictine Schools

In 1975, our Manila Priory adopted a four-pronged thrust which up to this day, influences the direction of our Priory. 1. That our institutional apostolates be socially oriented. 2. That we foster non-institutional apostolates. 3. That we initiate direct missionary work in the Philippines. 4. That we continue the sending of Filipina Sisters to the FOREIGN MISSIONS. Our Benedictine Spirit shall characterize these endeavors by a continuous striving to build community not only among ourselves but also with the people we serve; and by developing a vibrant liturgical spirituality that will draw us all into one worshipping community.
