HYMM (All sit)
Day 1 Scripture Reading – Song of Songs 8:6-7
Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm; for love is strong as death, passion fierce as the grave. Its flashes are flashes of fire, a raging flame. Many waters cannot quench love, neither can floods drown it. If one offered for love all the wealth of his house, it would be utterly scorned.
Day 2 From the Dialogues of St. Gregory
The next day the holy woman returned to her own house and the man of God went back to the monastery. Three days later, Benedict was sitting in his cell. He raised his eyes towards heaven and he saw the soul of his sister; it had left her body and took flight into the deepest mysteries of heaven under the form of a dove. Then Benedict was filled with joy because Scholastica was tasting the glory of God. He gave thanks to the allpowerful Lord with songs and praise. The he announced to the Brothers that his sister had died.
Day 3 From the Dialogues of St. Gregory
You see why I said: Benedict wanted something and could not do it. Indeed, we can see what that venerable man was thinking. When Benedict went down to see his sister there is no doubt he wanted that find day to continue. But in contrast to what he wanted there was a miracle, that the heart of a woman obtained by the power of Almighty God. Her desire to see her brother longer was stronger than he was at the time, and that is not surprising. Indeed, John tells us: ‘God is love’. Quite rightly, then, she had the greater power, because she loved more.
