Nunsense
This TV show started somewhat accidentally. I was being interviewed by Harry Tambuatco of Destiny Cable and on the way out, I saw Talk Show being aired. I asked him, “What Program is that?” He answered “ That is a Talk Show about Farmer/Tenant Issues. I asked “ Do you have a program about Women’s Issues? He answered “ None so far. Do you want to start one?” I said “ Oh yes”. He said “I am serious “I said “I am also serious.” So, he called his assistant and said “ Give Sr. Mary John an hour slot for Women’s Issues.” That’s it. That was February 8,2010. And we are now 11 years old. At first it was aired by Destiny Cable until it was merged with Skycable.
Now we are with TV Maria also connected with Skycable so we are not only shown locally but internationally. Our show is aired every Thursday jat 10:30 AM and 8:30 P.M. We do not confine ourselves to strictly women issues but all issues—political, economic, socio-cultural—but with a women’s perspective because I am the Host and I have a woman’s perspective. Our guests come from a wide range of backgrounds – Bishop Pablo David, C.J, Sereno, Jean Enriquez who brought along a prostituted client, the 4 OFW women who worked in Ryad and were the victims of” Sex for Flight”, Neri Colmenares, Hidilyn Diaz the first Olympic medalist of the Philippines ( in 2017 after she won an Olympic silver medal), Miss Samira Gutoc, Sen. Rissa Hontiveros, Venus Raj, Brother Armin Luistro, Fr . Lamberto Ramos (who was ordained at the age of 67 after his wife died and has 3 grown up children), Sr. Patricia Fox, Dr. Jimmy Tan, Rep. Rolando Tinio, former solicitor General Pilo Hilbay, Mother Prioress Mary Thomas Prado, and many more.
During this Pandemic, I interviewed priests and nuns who have been positive like Bro. Armin, Fr. Jojo Buenafe (our parish priest), Fr. Danny Pilario, Sr. Teodora, Sr. , Sr. Mary Samuel Formoso, Sr. Eugene Amar. Their sharings gave inspiration to COVID positive patients and their relatives. In this time of EJK, I also interviewed Tinay Palabay of Karapatan, relatives of EJK victims . The interview recordings are done in the TV Studio of the Mass COM Department of St. Scholastica’s College. This project just received a one-year funding from MISSIO, Aachen, Germany.
