Vocation
The religious vocation and its unfolding is, above all, God’s gift.
The individual called must embrace it as a personal challenge.
Those who freely respond to God’s call by entering the Congregation must be prepared to surrender themselves wholly to Christ; by doing so, they will be enabled to serve others according to God’s plan of salvation.

Formation
Formation is essentially a lifelong process of transformation into Christ. The candidate’s initial formation takes place in community. Life together with her sisters offers the candidate support and inspiration. On her part, consideration for others and readiness for service are required. A zealous and united community which strives for openness and love, and which allows for weaknesses and failures, can help the candidate become aware of the ideals and challenges of her vocation. She will be encouraged to advance with joy and steadfastness.
From the Constitutions of the Missionary Benedictine Sisters of Tutzing p.36 Ch. VI, para. 2
Essential to the formation of the Missionary Benedictine Sisters are:
- The Human Development of the total person (Psycho-spiritual Integration)
- The Personal Intimacy with Christ (Spirituality of the Missionary Benedictine Sister)
- The Personal Commitment to Christ’s Work for his People (Prophetic Role of the Missionary Benedictine Sister)
Formation Program by Level
a. Aspirancy
The Aspirancy is the first stage of the formation program.
The candidate is admitted to the Formation House Community. Due attention is given to the gradual and progressive character of the initiation process during this initial stage.
b. Postulancy
The postulant is introduced to the nature of religious life and to the spirituality and history of our Congregation through prayer, work, study and personal guidance.
Her participation in the social and apostolic activities of the community provides an opportunity to discern whether or not she has the attitude and aptitude which are necessary for missionary service.
c. Novitiate
The Novitiate is the stage of formation when life in the Congregation starts. This is the time given to the novice to experience the Benedictine way of life, to be formed in mind and heart according to the spirit of the Congregation, and to ascertain the presence of a Benedictine vocation.
At the Rite of Initiation into the novitiate, the postulant is taken into the community of professed sisters and novices.
d. Juniorate
The First profession of vows for three years inaugurates a new phase of formation. The junior sister carry with her the dynamism and stability derived from profession. Retaining the spiritual enthusiasm given by the preceding stages of formation, she moves to a more open lifestyle with very demanding studies and activities in a new environment. Formation at this level is geared at helping the junior sister integrate the varied experiences and challenges she encounters into her consecrated life.
e. On-Going Formation
On-going formation builds upon the foundation prepared during the period of initial formation. We continue to learn and grow throughout our lifetime and seek to deepen our relationship with the Lord and the community. Thus, we need encouragement and assistance in our daily striving to respond ever more fully to the call of Christ.

Prefer nothing to the love of Christ.
